Language Arts    

Language Arts class consists of the following topics:

We will read 4 - 5 stories in our Scott Foresman Reading Series, then read a novel from one of our favorite authors. Technology will be integrated into all Language Arts Lessons.

Reading    

Each week you will read one story from our Reading Anthology.  The stories are grouped according to different themes.  You can do an online activity for extra credit.  Click on the title of the story for the week to see the activity.

Writing

Our Writing activities will be related to each unit of study. 

All writing will be completed using the steps of the Writing Process. 

The 6+1 Traits of Writing will be implemented with a different topic taught each month

The students will always complete their first drafts on yellow paper. 

We will either use the laptops to create a typed final copy or handwrite a final copy, depending on the activity. 

These will be displayed in the classroom, then sent home for you to enjoy.

Spelling

 

Each week you will be responsible for learning 25 spelling words.  The Reading lesson for the week will tell you which spelling words you will need to learn.  You will have 20 words from your Spelling Book, and 5 additional words from your Vocabulary list.

Vocabulary

  

Each week you will be responsible for learning the vocabulary words from the Anthology story.  The Reading lesson for the week will tell you which vocabulary list you will need to choose from.  You will have a different number of vocabulary words each week, and 5 of the words from your Vocabulary list will appear on your Spelling test.
