Book in the Bag Program

As a way of extending our class Reading Workshop time, your child will be bringing home a book that he or she has selected in school to read.  Your child may read the book to you or you may read it together.  Please take time to sit and enjoy the book and discuss the story with your child as part of a regular homework routine.  Your interest and support are so valuable as your child works toward strengthening his or her reading skill.  The children may bring home books Monday-Thursday nights.

It is very important that the books are returned to the school the following day.   Students will not be allowed to check out another book until the book from the previous night is returned to school.  Since the books are the property of Oxford Central School, the student must replace it if it is lost or damaged.  The book must be transported to and from school in its plastic bag for protection.   It is best to develop a routine of placing the book back in its bag and into your child’s back pack as soon as you are finished reading together.  This prevents any last minute searching before school in the morning.

Thank you for your participation and involvement in Book in the Bag.
