Miss Stocker
6th, 7th,
and 8th Grade Math
Class Policies, Information, and Tips
Each marking period, your
grade will be based on the following: homework, tests, quizzes, projects,
notebook and warm-up book checks, portfolio, pop quizzes, and effort.
Homework (25%)
- Your homework grade is based on the percentage
of homework assignments that have been completed. Depending on the amount of effort you
have put forth on an assignment, you can earn either
full-credit, half-credit, or no credit.
- Assignments will either be gone over in class or
collected.
- If you fail to do your homework, you must fill
out and hand in a “No Homework” sheet (found in the front of the room).
- When you miss school, for each day that you are
absent, you have one extra day to make up your assignments.
- Above all, try! Some of the keys to understanding math
are in practicing and thinking through problems. Refer back to your notes, textbook,
warm-up problems, and previous homework for help.
Tests (20%) and Quizzes (15%)
- Test and quiz dates will be announced several
days in advance.
- Study guides will be given prior to tests and
quizzes, either in the form of notes or a handout.
- When studying, it will be helpful to refer to
your notes, textbook, warm-up problems, and previous homework assignments.
Projects (15%)
- Throughout the course of the year, each student
will be required to design one poster summarizing a current topic.
- Select projects will be technology-based.
- Project due dates are final.
Notebook and Warm-Up Book Checks (10%)
- Notebooks will be collected and checked on test
days, and warm-up books will be collected on quiz days.
- If you are absent, be sure to find out whether
you missed notes and get a copy from a fellow student. In your warm-up book, simply write the
date and a note stating that you were absent.
Portfolio (5%)
- By the end of each marking period, all tests and
quizzes must be signed and returned.
Pop Quizzes (5%)
- Pop quizzes will consist of the following: 1)
brief quizzes given in class and 2) any collected homework assignments. (If you did not complete a homework
assignment that was collected, you may still turn it in late to earn a pop
quiz grade.)
Effort (5%)
- Effort will be tracked on a daily chart. Failure to come to class prepared,
follow directions and classroom rules, or put forth effort in your work
will result in a red dot on the effort chart. Your effort grade is based on the
percentage of days in which you did not earn a red dot.
